“We will bring the National Cooperative Policy with a view to make the cooperative movement strong, efficient, transparent, technically rich and vibrant at the grassroots level.”
The pledge to bring a National Cooperative Policy has been delivered. The Union Home and Cooperation Minister unveiled the National Cooperative Policy 2025 on 24 July 2025 — a 2025-2045 roadmap drafted by a 48-member committee chaired by Suresh Prabhu — replacing the earlier 2002 policy. Aligned with the "Sahkar se Samriddhi" vision and Viksit Bharat 2047, it focuses on modernising, professionalising and digitising cooperatives and expanding grassroots employment. The commitment to introduce the policy is fulfilled (its long-term targets will play out over the policy period).
