The 'Stree Shakti' free bus-travel scheme for women, girls and transgender persons was launched on 15 August 2025, covering five APSRTC service categories (Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Express, Metro Express) - about 74% of the roughly 11,449-bus fleet - for about 2.62 crore beneficiaries, at an estimated Rs 1,942 crore per year reimbursed to APSRTC. By February 2026 around 4.29 crore journeys had been made. Premium/AC, non-stop and interstate services are excluded.
