“We will facilitate IOA to bid for hosting the Olympic Games in 2036, and develop sports infrastructure.”
The promise was to facilitate the Indian Olympic Association to bid for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games and develop sports infrastructure. The bid-facilitation component has clearly begun: the Union Sports Minister told World Athletics and IOC member Lord Sebastian Coe that India had sent a Letter of Intent to the IOC to host the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. National Sports Policy 2025 also explicitly seeks to attract major international events to India, and Union Budget 2026-27 announced the Khelo India Mission with infrastructure, training and competition components that support the wider sports ecosystem. However, the formal host selection is still pending and official evidence does not show India has secured the Games or completed Olympic-level infrastructure readiness. Because facilitation has begun but the full bid and infrastructure outcome remains incomplete, the verdict remains partial. Budget: no separate approved-source allocation specific to the 2036 Olympic bid was found; broader sports infrastructure is supported through the Khelo India Mission and the Ministry allocation.
