Incentivise domestic sports goods manufacturing

The promise was to incentivise sports goods manufacturing in partnership with the sports ecosystem in India. Official evidence now shows a clearer policy and budget pathway. Union Budget 2026-27 allocated Rs 500 crore for Promotion of Sports Goods Manufacturing, and PIB described it as a dedicated initiative to boost domestic capability. NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports also launched a report on India's sports equipment manufacturing sector, setting an ambition to scale sports goods exports to about USD 8.1 billion by 2036 and recommending fiscal incentives, upgraded manufacturing clusters, world-class testing and certification infrastructure, Brand India promotion and partnerships with international players. National Sports Policy 2025 also recognises sports as an economic sector and calls for strengthening sports manufacturing. The promise is therefore on track, but not fulfilled yet because approved-source evidence does not show full operational rollout, beneficiary selection or manufacturing-output gains from the new incentive.
