Expand Khelo India to improve access to sports infrastructure

The promise was to continue expanding the Khelo India network and related initiatives to nurture future athletes. Official evidence shows continued expansion: PIB reported a nationwide network of 1,067 Khelo India Centres and 35 State Centres of Excellence by June 2026, and earlier reporting recorded more than 1,000 centres, hundreds of sports infrastructure projects, accredited academies and direct athlete support. Union Budget 2026-27 also announced the Khelo India Mission to transform the sports sector over the next decade, including infrastructure for training and competition, integrated talent pathways, coach development, sports science and leagues. However, universal access to sports infrastructure is not yet achieved or quantified as complete across all districts and communities. The correct verdict is on track rather than fulfilled. Budget: Union Budget 2026-27 increased the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports allocation to Rs 4,479.88 crore and announced the Khelo India Mission; Khelo India had received Rs 1,000 crore in FY 2025-26.
