Create unified metropolitan transport systems with AI traffic management

The promise was to create unified metropolitan transport systems integrating multimodal transport and to use AI technologies for traffic management. Official evidence shows continued metro expansion, National Common Mobility Card and QR ticketing rollouts, PM-eBus Sewa integration and Smart Cities Mission command centres using technologies such as artificial intelligence and Internet of Things for city management. MoHUA reported that the operational metro network crossed 1,090 km in 2025, metro services grew to 26 cities and National Common Mobility Card and QR systems were being rolled out in metro and other transport systems. Separate official evidence says National Common Mobility Card was functional in 11 metro projects and 11 bus corporations by March 2026. However, this does not yet prove a unified metropolitan transport system across major cities, nor nationwide AI traffic management at the promised level. Budget: direct mapped allocation exists through metro rail sanctions and Smart Cities Mission investment, including Rs 25,932 crore of metro projects sanctioned from January to November 2025 and Smart Cities Mission investment of about Rs 1.64 lakh crore; city-wise utilisation for unified metropolitan systems was not found.
