Develop green spaces and revive water bodies to make cities sustainable

The promise was to develop more urban green spaces and revive water bodies to make cities more sustainable and people-friendly. AMRUT is directly mapped to this objective because one of its stated purposes is to increase the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well-maintained open spaces such as parks. Official AMRUT evidence reports 2,994 parks developed across 6,869 acres and 544 water bodies rejuvenated across 9,511 acres over ten years, with 388 parks and 391 water bodies reported for 2024-25. AMRUT 2.0 also approved 3,032 water bodies for rejuvenation covering 1.09 lakh acres. This is best treated as ongoing because the promise is continuing in nature and official evidence shows the activity is being maintained, but the broader sustainability outcome is not a one-time completed target. Budget: direct mapped allocation exists through AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0, with total outlay and expenditure reported across the mission, but separate utilisation for only parks, playgrounds and water bodies was not found.
