“We have provided piped gas connections to around 1.1 crore households nationwide. We will further expand this programme to all major cities and towns.”
The promise was to expand piped natural gas connections from the stated 1.1 crore baseline to all major cities and towns. Official evidence shows domestic PNG connections have grown to over 1.5 crore and City Gas Distribution has expanded from 57 geographical areas in 2014 to more than 300. PNGRB separately reported 16,885,574 domestic PNG connections and 307 authorized geographical areas as of April 2026. This is clear active expansion beyond the manifesto baseline. However, the promise refers to all major cities and towns, and the evidence still shows network expansion rather than universal coverage or household uptake in every major city and town. Budget: no direct Union budget allocation was found; this is primarily a regulatory and CGD entity investment model under PNGRB authorization, so budgetAllocated is false.
Government reported that about 5.96 lakh PNG connections had been gasified since March 2026 and infrastructure had been created for another 2.68 lakh connections.
