“We have launched a scheme PM-eBus Seva to introduce a fleet of e-Buss across cities to provide affordable and safe transport to citizens. Now we will further extend it to other eligible cities.”
The promise was to extend the PM-eBus Sewa fleet to more eligible cities. PM-eBus Sewa had Cabinet approval for 10,000 e-buses with Rs 57,613 crore estimated cost and Rs 20,000 crore central support, and official 2026 data says 10,000 buses have been sanctioned across 116 cities in 20 states and 6 UTs. MoHUA also reported Rs 1,254.38 crore sanctioned and Rs 483.70 crore spent for depot and behind-the-meter infrastructure till December 2025. The PM-eBus Sewa Payment Security Mechanism adds support for more than 38,000 e-buses, with tenders and letters of award progressing, but bus deployment and operations remain under implementation. This is on_track, not fulfilled, because sanction and tenders do not by themselves prove the promised urban fleet is fully operational. Budget: direct Cabinet-approved outlays exist for PM-eBus Sewa and PM-eBus Sewa-PSM, and utilisation evidence exists for infrastructure spending up to December 2025.
PIB reported that tenders for 6,228 PM-eBus Sewa buses had concluded, LOAs for 4,720 buses had been issued, and Rs 500 crore had been disbursed to CESL for the PSM Fund.
